Quo Artis presents A Sea Change at "The Blue and Us," an ICM-CSIC exhibition for the UN Ocean Decade Week 2024

8-12 April, 2024, ICM- CSIC Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona

Over the course of five days, from 8 to 12 April 2024, the Ocean Decade Week will lay a new groundwork aimed at enhancing the sustainable management of the ocean and propelling science-based innovation. This initiative, stretching from global to local scales, adheres to an inclusive approach ensuring no one is left behind. As a co-organising body, the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM) plays a pivotal role in these efforts, hosting and celebrating more than a dozen events at its Barcelona headquarters.

In this context, the exhibition The Blue and Us emerges as a beacon of artistic and scientific collaboration. It serves as a narrative exploration of our connection with the ocean, through diverse languages and perspectives.

The Quo Artis Foundation significantly enriches this exploration by showcasing the work of artists Robertina Šebjanič and Katja Loher, who are part of A Sea on Edge, the final exhibition of the project A Sea Change. Through their artistic contributions, Šebjanič and Loher highlight the necessity of a transdisciplinary approach to confront current and future challenges effectively. Their involvement in the exhibition aligns with the broader goals of Ocean Decade Week, reinforcing the importance of combining art and science to foster a deeper connection with and understanding of the ocean.

The exhibition, which was part of the “Art and Sea for Social Change” program spearheaded by Barcelona Mar de Ciència, seeks to transform public engagement with maritime research and the ocean.
